Friday 10/5 -Saturday 10/6
One of the most popular and biggest attractions of the waterfront is the Tennessee Aquarium and we find the accolates to be well deserved. One of the buildings explores the wonders of the ocean, while another has an unique presentation of rivers. We also take in an Imax show featuring sea creatures. Chattanooga has a wonderful free electric bus service for us to sightsee throughout the downtown area, and one of the highlights is the historic district where we find the Chattanooga Choo Choo terminal, preserved but now converted to a hotel. We were entertained for the evening as it was to our good fortune that the city was having a free bluegrass concert at the downtown waterfront. We rode the bus on Saturday morning to the incline railway, taking a ride up the world's steepest passennger railway to the top of Lookout Mountain with vistas of Chattanooga and the site of the last and one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. After dinner, we explore more of the waterfront area and walk across the popular Walnut Street pedestrian bridge(a converted auto traffic bridge) spanning the Tennessee River where we have a good view of our boat, the river and downtown. Upon crossing, we tour a unique waterfront park and enjoy good but expensive(nearly $10.00) ice cream cones where the shop sells it by the ounce!
